Winter Family Photo Session at Brushy Creek Lake Park

I photographed this family session in late December at Brushy Creek Lake Park. This park is especially popular among families living in Cedar Park and the surrounding areas, and for good reason.

With convenient parking, restrooms, playgrounds, and easy access to both wide open fields and the lake, it is a wonderful location for family photo sessions, especially for families with young children. The open space allows kids to move freely while parents can relax and enjoy the time together.

A Location That Changes Beautifully with the Seasons

Brushy Creek Lake Park offers a completely different feel depending on the season. In the spring, bluebonnets cover the fields, along with wildflowers and tall grasses. In the winter, as you can see here, the landscape shifts into soft, golden fields that still hold a touch of autumn warmth.

It is a location that feels beautiful and peaceful year-round, no matter the season.

Brushy Creek Lake Park family photos are perfect for families who want relaxed, natural images in a setting where children can move freely and parents can simply enjoy the moment together.

Capturing a Family’s Ongoing Story

This session was a family photo update for a family I have photographed over the years, from maternity to newborn sessions and beyond. Being invited back to document another chapter of their story is always incredibly meaningful to me.

On this day, the children had just recovered from a cold and were not fully back to their normal energy at the beginning of the session. They were a little fussy at first, which is completely understandable. But as soon as they saw the wide open field, their mood shifted, and they happily ran through the grass, enjoying the space around them.

Letting Children Be Themselves

Reading a child’s mood and energy is an important part of my job as a family photographer.Especially when children are recovering from being sick, I am mindful not to push them or give too many instructions. Instead, I focus on photographing them while they are naturally engaged and enjoying themselves, capturing moments as they unfold.

That day, the weather was warm and comfortable, making it a perfect winter afternoon for a relaxed family session. It was a gentle, unhurried shoot, and a really lovely time spent together.

There are many reasons to want photos, but no matter what stage of life you’re in,this moment will never come back in the same way.

You don’t need to pose or try to be anything else.I want to create space for you to simply be yourselves —capturing the quiet connections and natural moments that already exist between you.

If you’ve been thinking,“I’d love photos, but I feel a little unsure,”you’re not alone.

Please feel free to reach out —even if you’re just starting to explore the idea.
