This family photo session took place in late December at Garey Park, located just north of Austin.Even though it was winter, the day was surprisingly warm and comfortable, making it a wonderful time for an outdoor family photo session.

I’m an Austin-based family photographer, and this family photo session at Garey Park in Georgetown, TX is a beautiful example of natural family photos near Austin. I often work with families from Georgetown, Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Hutto. The Austin area is known for having many mild winter days, which makes winter an underrated but beautiful season for family photography.

Garey Park is a perfect choice for families who want natural, open scenery without traveling far from the Austin area. While it’s located in Georgetown, it’s easily accessible from surrounding cities and offers a peaceful atmosphere that feels far removed from the busyness of the city.

The park features wide open fields, gentle hills, river areas, and plenty of space to explore. This variety makes it easy to create a gallery that feels relaxed, organic, and full of movement.

Warm Winter Family Photography in the Austin Area

One of the best things about living in the Austin area is that winter often brings warm, sunny days. For family photo sessions, this means lighter layers, more comfortable kids, and an overall relaxed experience.

There is an entrance fee of $4 per person to access the park. The park is very well maintained, and the fee feels reasonable given the size and quality of the location.

Occasionally, weddings or private events take place at Garey Park. When that happens, the lake area may not be available for photography. However, because the park is so large, there are still many beautiful field and river locations available, even on busier days.

Recommended Session Length for Garey Park Family Photos

Garey Park is quite expansive, so I highly recommend booking a session of one hour or longer.This allows enough time to move between different areas of the park and capture a wider variety of images, from open fields to more intimate natural settings.

Longer sessions also give families time to relax, explore, and settle into the experience, which results in more natural and meaningful photos.
