August in Austin can be a tricky time for outdoor photoshoots. The summer sun is often intense, which is why I typically recommend capturing those beautiful moments in the cooler hours of the early morning. However, I also understand that early mornings don't work for everyone's schedule!
For a recent family photoshoot celebrating a little one's first birthday, we navigated the summer warmth with a thoughtful approach. This wonderful family wanted their session in the late afternoon, so we decided on a one-hour session split between two locations.
We began at their lovely Austin home, focusing on their naturally lit living room. This allowed for some intimate and comfortable shots as their little one was most at ease in familiar surroundings. Capturing those sweet smiles and interactions in their own space was a joy.
For the second half of our session, we ventured to the beautiful Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park. We were incredibly lucky that day – the typical blazing sun was softened by a touch of cloud cover, creating a beautifully diffused light and keeping the temperature surprisingly pleasant. This allowed us to capture some lovely outdoor family portraits amidst the park's natural beauty.
I was so happy to capture this Sweet One-Year Milestone Family Session in Austin. Their warmth and joy made the experience incredibly fun and memorable. Even with the summer challenges, the flexibility of splitting the session between indoor and outdoor locations, combined with a touch of luck from the Austin weather, made for a perfect celebration.
