In late September, I had the honor of capturing a truly heartfelt surprise proposal at McKinney Falls State Park's Upper Falls here in Austin! I was absolutely thrilled to be a part of it. The Upper Falls in the morning, in particular, is a photographer's dream. With fewer crowds and that beautiful, gentle early light, we practically had the spectacular scenery all to ourselves—the perfect setting for a super intimate surprise.

Planning the Sweetest Surprise

The groom-to-be reached out with the perfect plan, and we spent some time mapping it out together! After an initial consultation, I suggested several gorgeous candidate locations within the park. We decided the session would begin as a natural family photoshoot with his beloved dog and his girlfriend. The plan was simple: casually enjoy the scenery, and then, at his own perfect, spontaneous moment in the middle of the shoot, he would get down on one knee!

Of course, keeping the secret was our mission! We carefully worked out all the secret details beforehand to ensure she suspected absolutely nothing.

The initial photos were so sweet, capturing their natural dynamic as a family of three. And when that amazing moment arrived, the proposal was a beautiful success!

After the emotion settled, we spent the rest of our time enjoying the park, continuing the session as an engagement photoshoot. We captured all their joy, the stunning ring, and the excitement of their new chapter against the backdrop of the Falls.
