Including a Dog in an In-Home Newborn Session

For this session, the parents shared that they would like to include their dog once he felt calm and settled, and that they hoped to photograph together in the bedroom.

We waited for the right moment, when their dog naturally relaxed, and then brought him into the bedroom for the photos.Choosing this timing made a big difference, and the result felt natural, peaceful, and very true to their family.

Including pets in an in-home newborn session often works best when the session follows the family’s rhythm rather than forcing a specific moment.

Where We Photographed Inside the Home

We photographed mainly in the parents’ bedroom and the baby’s nursery.

The nursery didn’t receive a lot of natural light, but because we scheduled the session during a bright, sunny daytime window, the light was more than enough for soft, natural images.

In-home newborn photography doesn’t require a perfectly lit space.By choosing the right time of day and working carefully with available light, even rooms with limited natural light can photograph beautifully.

Before the session, we talked through wardrobe options to keep the focus on the baby.

Dresses always work beautifully for newborn photography.They photograph softly and move naturally in window light.

I also shared the option of keeping things more casual by coordinating outfits, such as wearing denim together.For this session, the parents chose the denim option, which kept the look simple and cohesive and fit the relaxed, at-home feel perfectly.
