Austin maternity photography during the Texas summer can be beautiful with the right timing.
This maternity session took place in mid-July at Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park, one of my favorite locations for maternity photography in South Austin.
Although summer in Austin can be extremely hot, planning your session around sunrise or golden hour makes a huge difference. For this session, we met in the evening to avoid the hottest part of the day. By the time the sun began to set, the temperature had become much more comfortable, and the warm golden light created a beautiful atmosphere for photographing this exciting season of life.
Why Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park Is Great for Maternity Photography
Located in South Austin, Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park is known for its wide open fields and peaceful surroundings. The expansive landscape creates a natural, timeless backdrop without feeling crowded, making it a wonderful location for maternity, family, and couple photography.
The park also has spacious grassy areas that work beautifully for relaxed walking portraits and candid moments. During golden hour, the soft light adds warmth and depth to every photograph, creating a calm and romantic feeling.
A Relaxed Summer Evening Session
One of my favorite parts of this session was how relaxed everything felt.
As the evening light softened, we wandered through the open fields, allowing the session to unfold naturally. There was no need to rush or force poses. The couple's gentle connection and quiet excitement about welcoming their baby made every moment feel genuine and effortless.
Rather than focusing on perfect poses, we simply embraced the peaceful evening and documented this meaningful chapter in their lives.
Is Summer Too Hot for Maternity Photos in Austin?
Many people worry that summer is too hot for outdoor maternity photos in Austin, but choosing the right time of day makes all the difference.
For July and August sessions, I usually recommend either:
Sunrise sessions
Golden hour sessions before sunset
Not only are these times much more comfortable, but the light is also softer and far more flattering than the harsh midday sun.
With thoughtful planning, even a midsummer maternity session can feel relaxed and enjoyable.
